India placed fourth at the Aichi-Nagoya Games with 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals, the largest haul in its history at the Asian Para Games. Para athletics supplied 65 of the 114, and the team was a little over half the size of the one sent to Hangzhou.

India won 114 medals at the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, the most it has taken home from the Games: 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze, according to All India Radio News. India finished fourth in the table, behind China, Japan and Uzbekistan, the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) said in its closing report on 24 October 2026. All figures here are final as of 2 November 2026.

India’s medals came over five days, 19 to 23 October, and Outlook India’s day-by-day count runs 11, 24, 27, 26 and 26. The first four days and their 88 medals are covered in an earlier report. This one covers the last day of India’s medal events and the final count.

The count by sport

All India Radio’s closing report splits the 114 by sport. Para athletics supplied 65 (22 gold, 19 silver, 24 bronze), para badminton 16 (three gold, five silver, eight bronze), para swimming 11, para table tennis seven, para archery six and para shooting five. Para judo and para powerlifting gave two each.

World Para Athletics, writing on the International Paralympic Committee’s site, ranks India second in athletics at these Games, with 22 golds and 65 medals. China led with 54 golds and 98 medals, Uzbekistan had 20 golds and 64 medals, and Japan 19 golds and 51 medals.

Outlook India’s list of medallists shows where the other eight golds came from: three in badminton, three in archery and two in shooting. The Bridge’s roundup shows six athletes with two golds each: the archer Sheetal Devi, the shooter Mona Agarwal, and the athletes Dilip Gavit, Pranav Soorma, Nishad Kumar and Simran Sharma. Nishad Kumar and Mona Agarwal carried the flag at the closing ceremony, All India Radio reported.

The last day, 23 October

India passed 100 medals on Friday 23 October, when Sandeep won the men’s 400 m T64, the APC reported. The day finished with 26 medals, nine of them gold, in Outlook India’s count.

In the javelin final for the F42 to F44 and F61 to F64 classes, Sumit Antil defended his Asian Para Games gold, with Mahendra Gurjar taking silver and Sandip Sargar bronze for an Indian sweep. IANS gave Antil’s winning throw as 72.46 m. Antil, Nitesh Kumar and Mona Agarwal were also medallists at the Paris Paralympics, which the Paris 2024 report covers.

Badminton produced three golds. Nitesh Kumar beat Pramod Bhagat 21-18, 21-16 in the men’s singles SL3 final, an all-Indian final, and Naveen Sivakumar won the SL4 title on his debut, beating Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan 21-9, 21-17, the APC reported. Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manasi Joshi won the women’s doubles SL3-SU5 final over China’s Qiuxia Yang and Zuxian Xiao, 21-16, 21-13, according to IANS.

In archery, Harvinder Singh and Vijay Sundi beat China 5-1 for the men’s recurve doubles gold, ANI reported. Pooja Jatyan and Bhawna Choudhary took silver in the women’s recurve doubles, which IANS and Khel Now describe as India’s first medal in that event at the Games.

The swimmer Himanshu Nandal won bronze in the men’s 100 m freestyle S11 in 1:05.90, his third bronze of the Games. Jehan Dorab Madan and Shubham Wadhwa took bronze in men’s doubles class MD4 in para table tennis; Madan is 50, and The Statesman called him the oldest member of India’s contingent to win a medal.

Which records are claimed, and by whom

Three of the day’s results were reported as world records, and the sources describe them slightly differently.

Haney threw 60.49 m on his sixth and final attempt in the men’s javelin F37/38, which the APC calls a world record. The F37 and F38 classes compete together and are ranked by Raza points rather than distance alone: 60.49 m earned 1,116 points, against 1,009 for Iran’s Hormoz Seidikazpounji, whose best was 50.68 m. World Para Athletics lists Haney’s mark as an F37 record; the Paralympic Committee of India’s release, carried by The Statesman, says T37.

Sandeep ran the men’s 400 m in 52.28 seconds, 0.85 seconds ahead of Saudi Arabia’s Nour Alsana, who took silver in 53.13. The final combined the T44 and T64 classes, and World Para Athletics calls the time a world record “for his class”, which is T44. ANI reported that the previous T44 record was Alsana’s and that Sandeep beat it by more than half a second.

Mona Agarwal shot 357.5 in the women’s 50 m rifle three positions SH1 final, 3.8 points clear of China’s Cuiping Zhang, ANI reported. The APC says the score improved the world mark of 356 held by Sweden’s Anna Benson.

All of these are reported records. World Para Athletics marks all eleven athletics world records of the Games, two of them India’s, as still to be ratified by it. World Archery says the same of the archery marks, among them the mixed team qualifying score of 1,402 that Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar shot on 19 October to break the old world record of 1,400, also Indian. One roundup, The Bridge’s, prints that score as 1,420; this article uses the federation’s figure. The sources read for this article do not say whether World Shooting Para Sport has ratified Mona Agarwal’s score.

The APC’s closing report counts 27 world records, 81 Asian records and 306 Games records across all sports. Its report of the closing-day press conference gave lower figures, 23, 62 and 243, across 18 sports; the sources do not explain the difference.

Where the table ended

The APC’s closing report says 1,538 medals were awarded, 33 nations won at least one and 22 won at least one gold. China topped the table with 207 gold, 117 silver and 111 bronze, and Japan’s 64 golds were its best at the Games. Uzbekistan was third, India fourth and the Republic of Korea fifth. All 45 national Paralympic committees took part for the first time, the APC said.

India reached its fourth place with 168 athletes, IANS reported, against 309 at Hangzhou. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports gave the Hangzhou contingent as 303 sportspersons.

The previous best: 111 or 108

India’s earlier record came at Hangzhou, where the Games ran from 22 to 28 October 2023 after a postponement from 2022. The Ministry’s own explainer at the time counted 111 medals (29 gold, 31 silver, 51 bronze). All India Radio and the Indian Olympic Association’s president now give the previous best as 108. IANS and The Statesman explain the gap: India won 111 at Hangzhou, they say, and three were later stripped after doping charges, leaving 108 (27 gold, 32 silver, 49 bronze).

That makes the margin three medals against the original count and six against the revised one. The Bridge, which uses 111, calls the 2026 total an improvement of three.

What was said afterwards

The Paralympic Committee of India’s president called crossing 100 and reaching 114 “a proud moment for Indian para-sports”, in a statement The Statesman published. The Prime Minister congratulated the contingent on 25 October, calling it the country’s best-ever performance at the Games, All India Radio reported. The Indian Olympic Association’s president praised the athletes, coaches and support staff in a post the same day.

The next Asian Para Games will be held in Doha in 2030, the APC said at the closing ceremony.
