India stood fourth in the table on 22 October 2026 with 21 gold, 26 silver and 41 bronze medals, with three days of the Games still to run. Archer Sheetal Devi equalled the women's compound world record in qualifying, took two golds, and set a mixed team world record with Toman Kumar.
India had won 88 medals at the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, by 22 October 2026: 21 gold, 26 silver and 41 bronze. All India Radio News, the public broadcaster’s news service, put the team fourth in the medal table. The Games run from 18 to 24 October, so every figure here is as published on 22 October and will change. India’s best Asian Para Games total is 111 medals (29 gold, 31 silver, 51 bronze), won in Hangzhou, China, in 2023, according to Outlook India.
The count, day by day
Competition began on 19 October. India finished that day with 11 medals (four gold, five silver, two bronze) and stood fourth, behind China, Japan and Uzbekistan, ANI reported. Nishad Kumar won the men’s T47 long jump with 7.11 m, which All India Radio called the team’s first para-athletics gold of the Games. Mona Agarwal took the women’s 10 m air rifle standing SH1 final with 250.0, a Games record, and Avani Lekhara was second on 249.6. Rinku Hooda won the men’s F46 javelin with 65.11 m, ahead of Ajeet Singh on 65.02 m.
All India Radio’s report of 21 October gave 35 medals, nine of them gold. It listed Games records for Simran in the women’s T12 200 m (24.80 seconds) and Deepthi Jeevanji in the women’s T20 400 m (56.36 seconds).
The tally after the third day was 62 medals (14 gold, 22 silver, 26 bronze), with India fifth. The day’s 27 medals included golds for Praveen Kumar in the men’s T44/T64 high jump (2.05 m, a Games record) and Simran in the women’s T12 100 m (12.02 seconds, also a Games record).
The fourth day added 26 medals: seven gold, four silver and 15 bronze. That moved India from fifth to fourth and to the 88 total.
Sheetal Devi: a world-record score, then two golds
The archery qualifying round on 19 October, held at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park, set up the week. Sheetal Devi, an armless compound archer, shot 704 out of 720, which equalled the women’s world record held by Oznur Cure Girdi of Türkiye, World Archery reported. It was also a new Asian Para Games record; the previous mark was 680. Her own Asian record before that round was 698, from Bangkok in March 2026.
With Toman Kumar she then scored 1,402 in the compound mixed team round, a new world record. The old mark of 1,400 was also Indian: Devi and Rakesh Kumar shot it in Ahmedabad at the Hyundai World Archery Para Series on 6 September 2026, the first para mixed team score to reach 1,400. With Payal Nag, Devi scored 1,379 in the women’s doubles round, which World Archery listed as a new Asian and Games record. Debutant Swati Chaudhary topped the W1 women’s round with 648, a Games record. World Archery noted that all the records are subject to ratification.
On 21 October, Devi and Nag won silver in the women’s compound doubles, losing the final 141 to 150 to China’s Xu Xueqing and Zhao Jing, DD News reported.
The golds came on 22 October. Devi won the women’s individual compound title 142 to 139 against Nur Syahidah Alim of Singapore, recovering from a four-point deficit, according to All India Radio. It repeated the final of the Hangzhou Games. The same day, Devi and Toman Kumar beat Indonesia’s Teodora Audi Ayudia Ferelly and Ken Swagumilang 151 to 148 for the mixed team gold. The Asian Paralympic Committee’s preview had named Devi as the defending champion in both events and described Toman Kumar as the world champion from the 2025 World Archery Para Championships in Gwangju.
Chaudhary won silver in the women’s W1 individual event, losing the final 4 to 6 to China’s Cen Mengkan after leading 4 to 2. ANI reported it as India’s first medal in that event at the Asian Para Games.
Records on the track and in the field
The 22 October results included an Asian record. Dharmaraj Solairaj won the men’s long jump (T44, T62 and T64 classes combined) with 7.15 m and kept the title he won at the previous Games. The Tribune’s ANI report said the jump beat his own 7.08 m from 2025.
India swept the men’s high jump podium in that class group: Shailesh Kumar gold, Varun Bhati silver, Rahul bronze. ANI gave the marks as 1.89 m, 1.84 m and 1.81 m, with the winning height a Games record.
Suvarna Raj won the women’s F54 discus with 15.66 m. Anjanaben Bumbadiya won the women’s T47 400 m in 59.97 seconds, with Jayanti Behera second. Dilip Mahadu Gavit won the men’s T47 400 m in 48.27 seconds, according to All India Radio.
Para badminton and table tennis supplied much of the bronze count. All India Radio named bronze medallists in mixed doubles, women’s singles SL3 and men’s singles SL4, and Bhavina Patel and Shubham Wadhwa took bronze in table tennis mixed doubles.
A smaller team than in Hangzhou
India’s contingent has 281 members, including 168 athletes (112 men, 56 women), who compete in 11 disciplines at a Games with 18 sports, All India Radio reported on 18 October. Pramod Bhagat and the sprinter Simran Sharma carried the flag at the opening ceremony at Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya.
The Asian Paralympic Committee cut the number of athletics places this time. Outlook India reported that India fields 62 athletes in athletics against 123 at Hangzhou, after the committee first offered 60 places and India won two more on appeal. Outlook India quoted Rahul Swami, chief executive of the Paralympic Committee of India, as expecting roughly 90 to 100 medals in Japan. The same report lists the medal count at the last four editions: 14 at Guangzhou in 2010, 33 at Incheon, 72 at Jakarta and 111 at Hangzhou.
What the leaders said
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted congratulations to the athletes on 22 October, naming Devi, Toman Kumar, Suvarna Raj, Anjanaben, Shailesh Kumar, Chaudhary and others. All India Radio quoted him calling the mixed team win a “superb victory”. President Droupadi Murmu congratulated Devi on the individual gold, calling it “a celebration of sporting excellence and an inspiration for the youth”, and noted it was India’s first para archery gold of this edition.
Three days left
The team’s coach, named Satyanarayan in ANI’s report, said he was confident India would pass 100 medals before the Games end, and called 88 a proud moment for the contingent.
Two places at the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics came out of the first day: ANI reported on 19 October that Mona Agarwal and Avani Lekhara each earned a quota place. India’s 2036 plans cover the Paralympic Games as well as the Olympics, as the piece on India’s 2036 bid sets out. Ahmedabad, where Devi and Rakesh Kumar shot the first 1,400 on 6 September, will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The same Japanese host region staged the Asian Games, where India won 85 medals between 19 September and 4 October.
The Asian Para Games close on 24 October.
